This Is For All You Lovers Out There
I’ve had all sorts of Valentine’s Days. The good, the bad, the really good and the super duper ugly. I’ve heard the stories and know I’m not alone out there on this!
The ugly Valentines days have included (but are not limited to) crying and eating pizza with my dogs, having MIA boyfriends, boyfriends who have no idea what the date is, watching football instead of eating chocolates (while secretly praying there’s a VD surprise in store, which there never was). Or my personal favorite; hanging out with girlfriends when “boyfriend” is busy only to find out that “busy” to one person means something different to another.
At any rate, I count my blessings on this Valentine’s Day and feel the pain of those who have yet to meet their match in life. My favorite Valentine’s Day ever was when, my now husband, Alex brought me to “One If By Land, Two If By Sea” in NYC. If you haven’t been, it’s a must, and may I suggest on Valentines Day (2024 because reservations are tough).
It was a perfectly quiet, romantic, evening in the most gorgeous setting, with my most handsome man, back in the days when I could put on heels because I didn’t yet know the joys of running after my kids. Alex is a romantic at heart, and has been since our first date. He knows how to make me feel “like I’m the only girl in the world” and when I am with him, I certainly know that I am. He knows how to look at me when I’ve made that extra effort so I feel extra special, pulls the chair out for me and holds the door, like a gentleman should but, most importantly, he listens to me and hears me, like only someone who loves you can.
Valentine’s since then have come and gone, some with romantic candlelit dinners, others with puking babies, but all, nonetheless, everything I’ve always dreamt of. This year I have big plans of making a heart shaped vegetarian meatloaf, eating as many chocolates as my kids, and watching back to back episodes of “The Flash” with my forever Valentine and our little loves, I’m psyched.
I hope that, whatever your Valentine’s Day plans are, they make your heart feel warm and loved, even if it’s you loving yourself just a little bit tighter.
XOXO, Maggie
