British Designers

I’ve always connected pretty easily with British women for some reason.  It might be because I look British or maybe it’s something about my Irish heritage and how many British people have a connection to Ireland?  When I started working in fashion, I met girls from all over the world who, like me, were young and traveling the world alone on this bizarre adventure. It was hard to become close with the girls since every job you did, more or less was in a different country with a whole new crew.  The shows were a great time to connect with other models because you’d spend so much time backstage everyday for a month, a few times a year.  I was fortunate to meet some really amazing girls.  A few girls from the US but a lot more from Russia, Brazil, France, Estonia, Sweden, Spain, England and more.  I became good friends with many of these girls but, for some reason it was easiest for me with the girls from the UK which led to my obsession with British fashion houses, naturally.

I love fashion.  I respect the process and art of it all, tremendously. NY designers are pretty well known for their quiet luxury while Milan typically screams expensive and Paris is pure art.  To me, designers in London have always felt like they scream from the heart.  It feels like these designers (not that all, everywhere aren’t) really dig deep inside themselves and put their hearts truly deep into their designs.  It doesn’t feel like it’s just art or a business to me, it feels more like they’re showing you their spirit, if that makes any sense?

When M opened a few years ago we dove a little head first into a combination of my passions, trying to learn to run a business and figure out what our customers wanted.  We fortunately had a great team we were working with to make it all happen, but along that path my passions were lost a bit.  Yes, we were figuring out our customer and the best way for our business to move forward but, with me really not that hands on ( busy with my kids and letting the pros handle it) the passion sort of faded away.  I’ve been having the best time this year bringing myself back to the heart of M and the vision I have for it.  One of the many changes I have been making has been bringing back the FASHION that I love.  The fashion that I really believe I can represent well, believe in and most of all the fashion that I think our clients both online and in person want to see and should expect from me.  This means, not your run of the mill designs that every other woman already has on but, something fresh, exciting, different but also so completely fabulous that it’s hard to handle.

I am so excited that we are just beginning to carry Needle and Thread as well as Temperley London which will give you a little (but amazing)  taste of some of the British fashion I so dearly love.  Needle and Thread is set to arrive this fall and I am so obsessed with some of the Mommy and Me things we are going to have!  I’m already pre-ordering for every holiday function I can dream of and more.

The second British designer new at M that I am over the moon about is none other than Temperley London!  Temperley is everything girls who dream of being princesses who ride on dragons backs’ think of when they think of fashion, at least me.  It is fun, cheery, sexy, creative, exciting, different and simply just gorgeous.  Temperley is divine for a girl who loves to get dressed and I’m beyond thrilled to have Temperley at M.

I have really cut way back on dresses at M and am trying to focus much more on keeping women stylish on a daily basis, not just when they need to be glamorous.  So, I had to really pick and choose when it came to the high glam but, I’ve got to say I really nailed it.  We’re keeping a few dresses in our favorite Zimmerman and Camilla and pulling out all the stops for Needle and Thread as well as Temperley when it comes to glamming our ladies up.  It was important to me that when you came to M or to shop on our site that you knew you would find something really special, unique and fun.  For your everyday shopping and for when you need that really special something. I feel very confident that you’ll be pleased.  Temperley is just arriving at M this summer and Needle and Thread will follow so you will have plenty of time to plan your looks ahead!  So many more amazing things coming to M!  Next week I’ll show you a bit more!

Take a look at some of our just in Temperley pieces!

Here are some of my favorite Mommy and Me styles from Needle and Thread coming soon to M by Maggie!
